2010 and the Web Professional
At a Business North West event held two weeks ago at the GMEX in Manchester a friend of mine working in sales for a new media company told me that the web professionals he had spoken to had all admitted to business being finished for the year.
Sales staff have been laid off or put on fewer hours as businesses prepare to welcome in 2010.
The question is why?
Sooner or later, and hopefully sooner, we will experience that collective moment when the country gets sick of feeling negative. It is almost tangible, the moment when we all feel enough is enough and that now is the time to start living more bullishly again.
But what will happen when that collective sigh of relief is experienced? Well I believe that a significant number of entrepreneurs that have suffered the pain of business failure will be ready to go again.
The economy has to get going again, we have no option and we know no different. In 2010 it will be three years since the Northern Rock triggered the UK banking disaster.
Now is a great time for web professionals to search out people in similar situations but whose skills would complement their own. For example those back end or ecommerce specialists whose skills could enhance those of good designers of flat websites.
Or those people whose skills include platforms that they are not an expert in? Joomla, Word Press, Cold Fusion every website has its own challenges and the more expertise you have around you the better so why not try to find it now whilst things are slow.
Survival is a sound strategy at this stage in the economic cycle but you need to make sure you have made those hard decisions that will put you in good stead for the upturn, as and when it comes.
