The Role
Working closely with the Senior Management Team, The Senior Process Safety Engineer / Manager, will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of Process Safety and other Regulatory requirements, including the provision of support under DSEAR & COMAH regulations in the UK.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Produce Technical Safety/process engineering deliverables as required in support of the business.
- Develop safety engineering philosophies, design HSE plans, safety specifications & equipment specifications.
- Arrange and participate in formal process safety assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL target setting studies, and generate study reports.
- Lead HAZID and SIL target setting studies.
- Input to, and participation at, project design assurance reviews such as P&ID reviews & Constructability reviews
- Hazardous area classification following industry codes and guidance (BS 60079, EI15,)
- Develop and implement functional safety management plans (BS EN-61511)
- Produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems.
- Provide technical support to projects and sites as required.
- Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislative changes, initiatives, and industry technology developments
Skills and Experience
- Educated to a Minimum of Degree Level (Ideally in Chemical Engineering or relevant Engineering Discipline) and holding Chartered Engineer Status.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience within either the Chemical or Speciality Material Manufacturing industry sectors
- Demonstrable knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX and other H&S legislation
- Technically proficient in all areas of process safety and loss prevention, HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, PHA etc.
- Previous experience of leading safety studies (HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA) would be highly beneficial
- DSEAR Risk Assessment experience would be highly desirable
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of process safety and environmental engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start-up
- Awareness of international codes and standards
