My client’s products are in use across all forms of entertainment from the largest of world tours to the smallest of nightclubs. We build products which inspire creativity and enable lighting designers to create the shows you will have seen at festivals, concerts & on TV. They produce market leading lighting control hardware and software solutions and develop lighting networking hardware for permanent and temporary applications.
They Develop a wide range of software from embedded firmware to mobile apps and web applications, primarily using C & C++ but also Python, JavaScript and others as needed.
They are a friendly group of around 40 team members based here in Southampton and part of a wider group which employs over 350 people with offices in Nottingham, Miami, California, Mexico, Paris, and Belgium. They work closely together to embrace challenges and seek ways to innovate and enhance our products for the ever-evolving entertainment industry.
About the Role:
They are seeking a Firmware Engineer to join our ambitious and growing team and help them build software for a range of hardware platforms. The R&D team based in Southampton is organically growing and their engineers are involved in the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and support solutions for our bespoke products.
- Create firmware and hardware level software and support tools.
- Ensure firmware can be built on our continuous build system.
- Produce documentation including requirements, change notes and user manuals.
- Prepare and implement suitable test strategies.
- Assist the support team with troubleshooting technical issues, developing and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Share knowledge and learning with other members of the software team.

Essential Skills:
- At least 3 years professional experience in Software Engineering.
- Experience of developing for ARM based micro-controllers in C.
- Excellent communication, technical & problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience:
- Developing for the Atmel SAM range of microprocessors.
- Experience using IDE’s such Eclipse or Visual Code.
- Using version control and CI systems such as GitLab, Git or Atlassian tools.
- Agile/Scrum development process experience.
- Working with stage lighting and lighting control products.
What they offer:
They offer a 35-hour work week (9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday) with an hour for lunch and although they hope you never need it, they also include BUPA company healthcare.
