Our client is a growing packaging machinery OEM specialising in the design and supply of capital equipment to the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and home care sectors. The business employs approximately 40 staff and operates as part of a wider subsidiary group of four companies.
The company is experiencing strong growth and is creating this role as a new position to support expansion within its flexible packaging machinery portfolio.
Role Overview
This is a technically focused, solution-led Sales Engineer role responsible for selling flexible packaging capital equipment, including pouch, sachet filling, and vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) bagging machinery.
The successful candidate will manage the full sales lifecycle—from new business development through to account management, working closely with customers to deliver tailored engineering solutions. Equipment values typically range from £100k–£150k, with sales cycles of up to four months.
This is a remote-based role, covering the northern region, with full autonomy to manage pipeline, customers, and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities within the food industry
- Manage and grow existing customer accounts
- Sell complex capital equipment using a solution-based, consultative sales approach
- Engage directly with decision-makers and senior stakeholders at customer sites
- Understand customer products, materials, and packaging requirements to recommend appropriate machinery
- Manage large-scale capital equipment projects from initial enquiry through to order and handover
- Work closely with internal engineering, applications, and project teams
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, and presentations
- Accurately forecast sales activity and manage a long-cycle sales pipeline
Technical & Commercial Requirements
- Proven experience selling capital equipment directly into the food industry
- Strong engineering or technical background (mechanical, electrical, or packaging-related)
- Demonstrated experience managing large capital equipment projects
- In-depth understanding of flexible packaging materials and their compatibility with machinery and end products
- Ability to translate technical concepts into commercial value for customers
- Comfortable managing long sales cycles and complex buying processes
