Project Engineer - 18 Month Fixed-Term Contract

Location: Teesside

Department: Projects

Contract Type: 18-month fixed-term contract

Hours: 40 hours per week

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Engineer to join a busy Projects team on an initial 18-month fixed-term contract supporting the delivery of a major engineering project based in Teesside.

This is a fully site-based role, responsible for supporting the successful delivery of project activities across civil, mechanical, electrical, and associated disciplines. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual, technical, commercial, and quality requirements.

The role will initially focus on a single major project located in Teesside. Working hours may vary to support project delivery requirements, and occasional travel to supplier premises may be required for activities such as Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs).

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Site Management

  • Support the successful delivery of projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Act as the site-based engineering representative, coordinating and supervising subcontractors carrying out mechanical, electrical, civil, and associated works.

  • Monitor project progress against agreed programmes, specifications, and contractual requirements.

  • Assist with planning, coordination, and management of resources to achieve technical and commercial objectives.

  • Inspect supplier equipment and subcontractor works to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, Quality Plans, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

  • Identify and report design issues, clashes, and technical challenges, working with engineering teams to implement effective solutions.

  • Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.

  • Support the Project Manager in achieving project goals and maintaining high standards of delivery.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)

  • Assist in the management and implementation of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality requirements on site.

  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, relevant legislation, and company procedures.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and records.

  • Ensure site personnel understand and comply with safety requirements and site rules.

  • Promote a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Temporary Works Management

  • Manage temporary works activities undertaken by subcontractors.

  • Coordinate with the Principal Contractor's Temporary Works Coordinator.

  • Ensure temporary works are appropriately planned, controlled, inspected, and delivered in accordance with relevant requirements and standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide site management support during required operating hours, including overtime where necessary to meet project programme requirements.

  • Attend supplier facilities where required for inspections, testing, and project activities.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management.

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of project processes and delivery standards.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • ONC/D, NVQ, City & Guilds Level 2 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent relevant qualification.

  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification such as SSSTS, SMSTS, or equivalent.

  • Valid CSCS Card (or equivalent).

  • Qualified and experienced Temporary Works Coordinator, or minimum Temporary Works Supervisor qualification.
