Service Team Leader

(Field Service)

Location: Ideally Birmingham to Nottingham (candidates further North will also be considered)
Salary: £42,000 + Overtime + Excellent Benefits

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Service Team Leader to join our growing field service team. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a Senior Field Service Engineer looking to take the next step, or an existing Service Supervisor who enjoys leading from the front.

You will be responsible for managing and supporting a team of 4 Field Service Engineers, ensuring high standards of workmanship, customer service and technical performance. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will continue to work in the field carrying out servicing, repairs, breakdowns, commissioning and installation of specialist inspection equipment.

This role offers a great balance of technical work, people management and customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead, mentor and support a team of 4 Field Service Engineers.
  • Deliver technical coaching and on-the-job training to develop the team's skills.
  • Monitor work quality, paperwork and service standards to ensure company procedures are followed.
  • Carry out field service work including:

    • Preventative maintenance
    • Breakdown diagnostics and repairs
    • Installation and commissioning of new equipment
    • Customer training where required

  • Provide first-line technical support to customers and engineers.
  • Act as the main technical escalation point for field-based issues.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ensure service reports and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support continuous improvement within the service department.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone with a strong technical background who has progressed into a supervisory or leadership role while remaining hands-on.

Essential Experience


  • Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer working on capital equipment.
  • Experience installing, commissioning, servicing and repairing machinery at customer sites.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience managing or mentoring engineers.
  • Experience working within production or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong customer-facing experience with excellent communication skills.
  • Comfortable providing technical support over the phone and in the field.

Technical Skills


  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Confident using a digital multimeter/voltage meter for electrical fault finding.
  • Good understanding of single-phase electrical systems.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding skills, including:

    • Motors
    • Gearboxes
    • Pulleys
    • Drive systems

  • Experience working on production line equipment is highly desirable.
  • Experience with inspection machinery such as checkweighers, metal detection systems or similar automated industrial equipment would be advantageous.

Travel

This is a field-based role covering customers throughout the UK.


  • Most work will be within approximately 2 hours of your home address.
  • Occasional overnight stays will be required depending on customer location and workload.
  • Full UK driving licence essential.

Package


  • £42,000 basic salary
  • 38-hour working week
  • Paid door-to-door travel time
  • Overtime paid at:

    • Time and a half during weekdays and Saturdays
    • Double time on Sundays and Bank Holidays
