The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Service Technician to join a specialist technical operations team based in Reading.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in electrical and electronic repairs who takes pride in maintaining high standards and ensuring equipment remains in excellent working condition.

You will be responsible for the repair, servicing and maintenance of professional lighting equipment, playing a key role in maintaining the quality, reliability and availability of the hire inventory.

Working closely with the wider operations team, you will help ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard, repairs are completed efficiently and all work is carried out in line with established procedures and health and safety requirements.

This is a dedicated workshop-based repair and maintenance role, focused solely on lighting equipment. There is no loading or general equipment handling as part of the position. You will report directly to the Warehouse Operations Manager.

  • Manage equipment repairs efficiently, ensuring work is completed within agreed timescales and in line with established procedures.

  • Oversee the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT) regime, ensuring compliance with testing procedures.

  • Identify, specify and request spare parts required for equipment repairs and maintenance.

  • Submit warranty claims and coordinate external repair services where required.

  • Work closely with the Warehouse Operations Manager and wider technical team to understand workloads, priorities and deadlines.

  • Provide ongoing technical guidance and service training to junior members of the Prep and Operations teams, promoting safe working practices in accordance with health and safety policies.

  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment, ensuring excellent housekeeping standards.

  • Assist with stock-checking requests and inventory additions where required.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Strong experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.

  • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

  • A meticulous and methodical approach, with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • The ability to work independently, use your own initiative and take ownership of your workload.

  • A proactive, flexible and practical approach to work, with a positive, can-do attitude.

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.

  • Good IT skills, ideally with previous experience using stock control or rental inventory management systems.

  • A team-focused mindset and an interest in sharing knowledge and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within an AV Environment.

  • Experience working with professional lighting equipment and associated technologies.

  • Familiarity with Hog and grandMA lighting control desks.

  • Previous experience using a rental inventory or equipment stock management system.
