Salary: £39k - £44k DOE
Get-out rate: £40.38 per hour
Hours: Full time, 1,929 hours per annum (equivalent to 37 hours per week)

An established and highly regarded live events and venue operator is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join its in-house technical team at a prominent South Coast venue complex.
Hosting over 400 events each year, the site delivers an exceptionally diverse programme including live music tours, large-scale theatrical productions, West End shows, opera, conferences, banqueting, and in-house productions.
This is a key leadership role within the technical department, responsible for delivering high-quality lighting, sound, AV, and stage production services, while ensuring exceptional client service across entertainment, conferencing, and corporate events.
The role spans two major buildings and six venues, including an arena, an art-deco ballroom, and a 1,500-seat proscenium theatre, offering variety, scale, and creative challenge.
The Role
This position blends hands-on technical expertise with people leadership and operational planning. You will take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of events, from pre-production planning through to completion, ensuring events are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
You’ll lead technical teams on a wide range of productions, manage logistics and resources, liaise closely with visiting productions and internal departments, and play a key role in developing systems, infrastructure, and team capability.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and taking pride in delivering outstanding live experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe and efficient delivery of all productions and events, including planning, setup, operation, and get-out
- Line manage contracted and casual technical staff
- Act as the primary technical contact for incoming productions and events
- Collaborate closely with fellow technical managers and wider venue teams
- Support compliance across the site, ensuring safe working practices are understood and followed
- Ensure all technical documentation and paperwork is completed and shared in advance of events
- Work with programming teams to ensure productions are fully aware of any technical recharges
- Design, programme, and operate lighting, sound, and AV systems as required
- Maintain and develop venue infrastructure, keeping systems aligned with current and emerging technologies
About You
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience delivering high-quality live technical events
- Previous experience managing or supervising a technical department
- Strong knowledge of staging, live sound, lighting, and AV operations
- A thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and BS7909
- Advanced knowledge of lighting and sound, with a strong interest in AV
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working across both entertainment and conferencing environments
Flexibility is essential, as technical support is provided seven days a week. The role operates on a rota basis under an annualised hours contract.
