Junior Product Designer (Luminaire Design)
Salary: £29,941An entry-level opportunity is available for a Junior Product Designer to join a product development team focused on the design and engineering of luminaires and related components. The role operates standard office hours, Monday to Friday (8:30am-5:30pm), and is suited to a candidate looking to begin a career in mechanical and product design within a manufacturing environment.
The position supports the development of new products from concept through to production, with involvement across 3D modelling, technical documentation, and prototype development. The role also requires close collaboration with engineering, technical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, accurate, and suitable for production.
A strong emphasis is placed on design for manufacture, quality standards, and continuous improvement, alongside adherence to internal procedures and compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with new product development processes, including 3D modelling and 2D detailing
- Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical datasheets
- Support product lifecycle management activities across departments
- Ensure manufacturing and assembly requirements are considered in design work
- Develop and support prototype production and design iteration
- Liaise with manufacturing teams to ensure accurate, efficient fabrication
- Assist in the development of bespoke and non-standard product designs
- Follow internal quality control, ISO procedures, and health & safety requirements
Candidate requirements
- Some proven mechanical design experience (entry-level considered)
- Strong computer literacy and willingness to develop technical software skills
- Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- High attention to detail and accuracy in design work
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Reliable, organised, and proactive approach to work
Desirable skills
- Understanding of electrical, optical, or thermal engineering principles
- Awareness of manufacturing processes and design for production
