Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 plus company car, fuel card, phone, laptop, pension and 28 days holiday inclusive of statutory daysThe Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Manager to join an established, family-run specialist water engineering business with over 30 years of industry experience.
The business operates across pumping systems, sewage and wastewater, boreholes, private water supplies, water treatment, irrigation, water features and agricultural water systems, alongside a specialist trade counter supplying pumps, pipework, fittings, controls and water treatment products.
This is a key leadership role for an operationally strong, commercially minded individual who can bring structure, accountability and consistency to a growing business while retaining its entrepreneurial, practical and customer-focused culture.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing day-to-day business operations, engineering, service, sales, administration and trade counter activities.
- Improving planning, scheduling, resource utilisation and operational processes.
- Monitoring budgets, margins, labour utilisation, costs, KPIs and overall profitability.
- Developing customer and supplier relationships and identifying new commercial opportunities.
- Ensuring projects, service works and customer commitments are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.
- Overseeing stock, purchasing, supplier relationships and trade counter operations.
- Identifying operational improvements, reducing inefficiencies and implementing practical solutions.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within water engineering, utilities, pumps and pumping systems, wastewater, boreholes, private water supplies, water treatment, irrigation, agricultural or mechanical engineering, aquaculture, construction
- Strong commercial and financial understanding.
- Experience managing budgets, margins, costs and operational KPIs.
- Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
- Experience within project, service or field-based operations.
- A practical, hands-on management style.
- The confidence to make decisions and take ownership.
