I stayed in Education right through to the age of 21 following completion of my Journalism Degree at Leeds University. Whilst at University I worked at McDonalds, Asda & did Bar work before moving into Sales related roles. I worked my way up within the finance sector to become manager of a Pensions department before redundancy lead to me moving into recruitment.
I currently head up recruitment within the Lighting, Lighting Controls & Emergency Lighting sector. I really have a passion for surfing, so I just love how up and down recruitment is and the challenges that brings with it. I love working within the team we have here at SER and love the social events we do as a business.
Favourite Industry Fact:
If an LED bulb is installed in a newborn baby's room today, then that bulb won't need to be changed for over 20 years, meaning that one bulb will last the child until he or she goes to University or starts work.

Nearly 97% of the world's water is salty or otherwise undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in Ice caps and glaciers. That leaves just 1% for humanity's needs – all agricultural, residential, manufacturing, community and personals need. Up the Water companies!!

John's Story
John was a lonely chap, travelling the M25 with only a sat nav as his partner and the brief fulfilment of a successful install; a career is what John desired. John worked hard day in day out and through time managed to manoeuvre himself from service work and into applications. It was here that he found himself tasked with a production line problem within a well-known toothpaste factory.
The factory manager had discovered that a number of the boxes were being sent out on a daily basis without the toothpaste tube. The issue was causing concern, with major resellers threatening to cancel future orders. John was called and asked to help save the factory.
Using his years of experience and knowledge John came up with the solution, he solved it by installing high-tech precision scales at the end of the conveyer. The scales would sound a bell whenever a box crossed the scales that was minus a tube and therefore too light. At this point production would stop and someone would need to walk over and push the empty box off the line and press the restart button.
Result, a fool proof solution all under the £800,000 budget and surely another rung up on John's career goal of Engineering Directorship.
Several months passed and the Engineering Manager of the toothpaste factory decided it would be a great idea to check on his investment and calculate what improvements it had made. He printed the report off and to his surprise it read. No empty boxes were shipped. A 100% accurate process - AMAZING, FANTASTIC, OUTSTANDING, John you engineering genius he thought. He then checked the number of empty boxes that had been removed, zero, nothing, nil. How could that be? Something must be wrong with the report.
The Engineering Manager, puzzled and confused, went to ask the Line Manager. As he walked passed the new high-tech scales he noticed a small £10 office fan pointed onto the conveyer and saw it blowing off any empty boxes that passed. On seeing the Line Manager he asked "Well?" looking puzzled at the fan, the reply was "ha, that, one of the production lads put it there as he got tired of walking over every time the bell rang!"
John needed a new job and quick......

Air Conditioning Wasn't Invented For Comfort
The first air conditioner was created in 1902 by Willis Carrier. He worked in a publishing house in New York, and needed to find a way to stop the paper from expanding and contracting in the humidity, as well as address problems they were having with the ink. This is when he invented the first electric air conditioner to combat this humidity. Little did he know the change this would make on society!

Before starting with SER, I was employed by a Debt Collection company as a Collections Advisor and did this for almost 3 years. Prior to this, I worked for a mortgage outsourcing company for 5 years within various roles from working on the payment line and ending up running an Islamic Hone Finance client solely.
I currently recruit within the UK Water & NZ Asbestos Sectors and have done since 2014, building up strong relationships with candidates and clients alike. I love speaking with people and finding them their next position and in some cases a once in a lifetime opportunity. I also love changing "people's views on recruitment" as a recruitment companies generally tend to get a bad name, so I love showing them how I work differently.
