Location: West Yorkshire
Role Overview
A leading bespoke lighting manufacturer is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimising custom lighting products, transforming creative concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring both technical skill and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs for bespoke lighting systems from concept through to production
- Prepare and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and schematics
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and workshop teams to ensure designs are manufacturable
- Support small-scale prototyping, testing, and design refinement
- Specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes
- Conduct mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis, and stress assessments where required
- Provide technical guidance to production teams, including assembly instructions and quality standards
- Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and product specifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
- Strong mechanical design experience, including sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly considerations
- Ability to read and produce detailed engineering drawings
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach
Desirable Skills
- Experience in lighting, architectural, or bespoke product design
- Knowledge of low-voltage systems and basic electrical considerations for mechanical components
- Experience with small-scale prototyping and workshop fabrication
- Familiarity with quality standards and product testing
