Location: Shrewsbury (hybrid working available)
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (DOE) + benefitsAbout the Role
An established and growing environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join its hydrogeology and flood risk team. With a strong reputation for delivering practical, technically robust solutions to complex water management challenges, the organisation works across a wide range of sectors, combining regulatory expertise with real-world industrial experience.
The Opportunity
This is a senior technical and project leadership position, primarily based in Shrewsbury with flexibility for hybrid working and site visits.
You will lead and deliver complex hydrogeological and water-related projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to a high technical standard. The role also involves mentoring junior staff, supporting business development, and maintaining strong client and regulatory relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver hydrogeological, groundwater, water resources, and flood risk projects
- Manage multiple projects, including programme planning, resource allocation, and budget control
- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports, risk assessments, conceptual site models, and quantitative analyses
- Undertake and supervise site investigations, monitoring programmes, and pumping tests
- Support the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates
- Act as a key point of contact for clients and regulators, providing clear technical advice
- Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to their development
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams on integrated environmental projects
About You
- Degree in Geology or a related discipline (MSc in Hydrogeology or equivalent desirable)
- Significant experience in hydrogeology, groundwater, or water resources
- Proven ability to manage projects independently, including budgets and programmes
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and experience liaising with regulators
- Experience producing high-quality technical reports with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally
Desirable:
- Chartered status (CGeol, CSci) or working towards
- Experience with groundwater modelling and relevant software
- Experience working in a consultancy environment
