Combining strong industrial and regulatory expertise, the organisation provides clear, technically robust advice that helps clients reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency, and manage risk.

The Role

Primarily office based with flexibility for hybrid working and site visits, you will lead a team of hydrogeologists and flood risk consultants while overseeing the day-to-day operation of the business unit. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality technical delivery, strong financial performance, and the continued development of the team.

This is a key strategic role offering the chance to influence business direction, drive innovation, and contribute to the growth of a well-established consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the hydrogeology and flood risk teams, supporting wellbeing and professional development
  • Oversee daily operations, including workload planning, resource allocation, and financial performance
  • Act as technical authority and reviewer for complex hydrogeological, groundwater, water resources, and flood risk projects
  • Lead the preparation and approval of fee proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets
  • Manage high-profile and complex projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality standards
  • Provide strategic technical advice to clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders
  • Build and maintain strong client and regulator relationships
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions
  • Drive continuous improvement in business processes, systems, and quality assurance
  • Contribute to business strategy, growth, and service development
  • Support technical excellence through knowledge sharing, CPD, and industry engagement

About You

  • Degree in Geology or a related discipline (MSc in Hydrogeology or equivalent desirable)
  • Significant experience in hydrogeology, groundwater, or water resources
  • Proven experience in a leadership or senior technical role, including team management
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience working with regulators
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budgets and programme delivery
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
  • Experience mentoring and developing staff
  • Experience contributing to or managing quality, health & safety, and environmental systems
